Emergency Dental and Additional Dental Benefits Available to You

Any adult with Arizona Health Care Cost Containment System (AHCCCS) insurance knows the struggle of having dental work completed. In the past if you had AHCCCS and were 21 years of age or older there were no dental benefits unless medically necessary.

As of October of this year this is no longer the case. If you are an adult, AHCCCS will now cover EMERGENCY ONLY visits.

Below we have listed the guidelines to Emergency Dental Services:

  • Emergency Dental Services up to $1000 per member per contract year
  • These services must be related to the treatment of a medical condition such as acute pain (excluding TMJ), infection, or fracture of the jaw.
  • Covered services include a limited problem focused exam of the oral cavity, required x-rays, oral surgery, anesthesia, and any necessary antibiotic or pain medication prescribed by doctor.

Basically, if you have a specific tooth or area that is in pain and/or infected or believe you have fractured your jaw, a dentist will evaluate just the area in question and not the entire mouth.

Preventative and restorative services outside of the specified area such as cleanings, fillings, braces, dentures, etc. will not be covered.

Do you have AHCCCS and both Medicaid part A and B? If so you are also eligible for $3250 per year for dental services!

Call our office today to schedule or to find out more about additional benefits that may be available to you.
